The Challenge

In 2022, as the pandemic caused uncertainty and financial struggles, Spain's restaurant sector faced significant challenges. With gastronomy as a cultural cornerstone, it became clear that action was needed to support these businesses during a critical time.

The Solution

When printed menus were banned, makeshift solutions like PDFs and websites emerged but proved unprofessional and user-unfriendly. In response, my brother and I developed a platform for restaurants to easily upload and update menus, offering customers a simple and professional experience.

The project

We developed a technology-driven platform that was seamless for users, based on a simple concept: an app that geolocates you and shows the menu of the restaurant you are in.

Allowing customers to browse, view details, and order directly. Restaurants could easily upload and update menus with allergen and pricing information. Initially launched in a limited area in Spain, the self-funded project aimed to support the local restaurant community.

My Role:

  • End-to-End Product Design.

  • Designed the complete UX/UI, branding, and visual identity.

  • Conducted user research, validating hypotheses through remote testing with bars and restaurants.

  • Developed & implemented a communication strategy, media interviews.

  • Prototyped and iterated designs in a two-month sprint.

  • Versatile roles, handling all aspects of UX/UI with a user-centric approach.

Results:

From the beginning, my brother and I were clear that this was a project to help, not to make money. For this reason, we decided that the platform would operate for just one year.

The response exceeded all our expectations: hundreds of local restaurants uploaded their menus, and thousands of users downloaded the app to place orders.

However, the true success was offering an innovative solution during the most uncertain time of the pandemic. We enabled many businesses, whose livelihoods depended on their daily operations, to find tangible support. That was, without a doubt, the best result we could have achieved.
